I just thought it would be nice to give you a few facts about me, so you get to know me a bit better before we share some sweet pastry moments together! But I must admit, I find it really hard to write about myself. It feels like these odd interviews where people ask you about your top 3 qualities and defects.
Well, let’s be clear, People from the HR departments, we tend to say what you want to hear anyway, qualities that actually involve so much more on a wide scale, whereas we choose flaws that actually highlight our qualities. It is weird and without any interest. And by the way, isn’t it weird to try and give a definition of someone? We all change as life goes by, right? So, nope, I will not do that.
But here are 7 fun facts about me. Please don’t judge what I call fun, I am French, and that in itself is an excuse.
1-When I was 14, I have asked my parents and my teachers if I could follow a pastry training to become a pastry chef.
Alas, at that time, neither The Great British Bake Off nor its French version existed, and Pastry was yet to reach its glory days.
So, it was a massive NO, and I had to wait 41 (you got to love the symmetry here) to start my pastry business…
Nope, I didn’t sit back and relax during all this time, ‘did some biology and archaeology meanwhile.
2- I speak franglais as it seems…
I don’t even notice it anymore, but after 9 years in this country, I just can’t help but sometimes, well ok quite often, introduce some of the wonderful expressions of Shakespeare language.
“The world is my oyster”…
By the way, I don’t really like oysters, unless they are grilled with cheese, just delicious, believe me.
3- I am a scaredy cat.
I can’t go home alone when it is late and dark outside. When Hubby is away, I check every single corner in my house where a thief could actually hide out. Every wardrobe. Under every bed. Every drawer (yes, dwarves do exist). Even in the fridge. I know. Penguins don’t live in UK. Still.
I can’t go to bed before I have checked everything twice.
I feel quite ashamed now. I count on the fact that no one will have read this bio so far.
4- I am passionate about passionate people.
I could listen to anyone speaking about their interests as long as they share with me their enthusiasm and their excitement.
I definitively was that kind of student who’d fall in love with the teacher that chose his job because he actually loved it.
Happened quite a few times to be honest.
5-Speaking of falling in love…
I came to London for the first time in 2012… and fell straight away in love with her. I knew I wanted to live here about 20 minutes after I got out of the tube.
Now that she is part of my daily life, I sometimes hate her, and just want to escape from her. But I always come back to her, she’s the one for me.
6-I hate when people are left behind. In sports, in a game, in a group.
Ok, not a fun fact… until I tell you that this sense of equity goes way beyond people.
I absolutely cannot leave just one fork in the dishwasher before going to bed. I could leave two. But not just one . Because (wait for it ) it, that is the fork, may feel alone. It may feel sad not to be stored with its friends, the other forks lined up in the drawer, which might or might not hide a thief.
Ok, does anyone know a good therapist?
7- I can’t stay quietly on the phone.
I scribble. Always the same thing. Birds, hearts, broken hearts sometimes, feathers (but not on the birds), roses… I don’t draw. I am so bad at drawing.
When I was a student, I used to work in a kindergarten, and I was in charge of a group of 3-4 years yo.
One day I had them draw their house, and at the end of the day, I pinned all their masterpieces for their parents to guess which one was their kid’s.
My drawing turned out to be pinned with them. Many parents thought my paper was their house drawn buy their 3yo toddler.
That’s how bad at drawing I am.
But I scribble a lot when I am on the phone. I even by notebooks just for this doodling.
So here we are, you know a little bit more about me now. I hope we’ll meet soon, either for a workshop or a casual pastry moment.
Please keep in touch!
